IIM-A set to introduce new courses this year
Our Bureau
Ahmedabad, June 18 With a bouquet of new courses and additional infrastructure in place, the Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad is confident of beginning the new academic year on a positive note from next week despite the gloom of the recession.
“Initially we were a little sceptical about handling the additional seats, but as work goes on we are confident that we will be able to accommodate the 13 per cent reservation in OBC seats and 13 per cent increase in general quota seats,” said Professor Samir Barua, addressing the press.
Commenting on the change in guard at the Centre in the HRD Ministry Mr Kapil Sibal, Prof Barua said that though the institute had not met the new Minister, he was looking forward to knowing his plans for the institute.
Mentor for Jaipur
As decided earlier, the institute has agreed to mentor the upcoming Indian Institute of Management - Jaipur and support it from the outside by providing faculty training, course advice and help in processes.
But it would not be possible to ‘mentor’ it the way Indian Institutes of Technologies do, he added.
“While the IITs are spread across 1,200 acres or so, we are only 100 acres. We do not have the infrastructural facilities to mentor the institutes as such,” he said.
