DBS Bank India profits rise

Chennai, June 18

DBS Bank India on Thursday announced a quadrupling of net profits for the financial year ended March 31, 2009. The bank’s net profits grew to Rs 259 crore in 2008-09 compared with Rs 65 crore in the previous fiscal. The strong performance came on the back of higher revenues which rose to Rs 617 crore in 2008-09 compared with Rs 207 crore the previous fiscal. Enhanced focus on client acquisition across business segments doubled the overall customer base, a bank press release said. The bank has ramped up its branch network last year and opened 10 branches across the country.
