Infrastructure States - Kerala Technopark to add 3-m sq ft of space Our Bureau Thiruvananthapuram, June 9 Technopark Thiruvananthapuram has announced that it will add 3 million square feet of IT office space as part of Phase 3 expansion of the park. Conceived by well-known architect Mr Hafeez Contractor, in association with the city-based architectural firm Iyer and Mahesh, the 3 million square feet of office space will come up across six blocks. Each block will have half million square feet of office space, said a Technopark official. As the six blocks will be connected at the basement level, the project is being viewed as a single building and is being positioned by the Technopark authorities as “the single largest IT building in India.” Futuristic design“The building is planned as a futuristic design, incorporating the latest trends in technology, including ‘green’ concepts,” said Mr Mervin Alexander, CEO, Technopark. When completed, the six blocks will, together, be able to accommodate around 18,000 IT professionals. To be located on a 40-acre plot adjacent to the existing Technopark campus, it will have special economic zone status. The project, which is being developed by Technopark itself, will be implemented in three phases. Construction of the first phase is scheduled to start in September this year, the official said. The first phase of 1 million square feet is scheduled to be ready for occupation by July 2011. The investment in constructing the two blocks that will constitute the first phase is estimated to be Rs 250 crore, he added. Meanwhile, as part of the Phase 3 expansion of Technopark, the park authorities are offering approximately 52 acres of land for development. The land will be leased to private developers.
