Mumbai, June 8 One of the two long-standing vacancies at the Securities Appellate Tribunal has been filled with the appointment of Mr Samar Ray as member.

Of the two vacancies at the Tribunal, the last arose in January 2000 with the retirement of Mr Utpal Bhattacharya as member.

The absence of quorum had virtually brought work at the Tribunal to a grinding halt for the last five months.

Mr Ray was Deputy Controller and Auditor-General in the office of the CAG at the time of his retirement early in this year.

Mr Justice N.K. Sodhi continues to be presiding officer at SAT.
