Retailing States - Kerala Floating superstore launched in Kuttanad
V. Sajeev Kumar Alappuzha, June 8 Kerala State Co-operative Consumers Federation Ltd (Consumerfed) has launched a floating superstore in Kuttanad – a novel concept – to sell essential commodities to those living in isolated and inaccessible areas of the backwater region. The 1,000-sq ft vessel named Triveni Super Store was flagged off by the State Co-operation Minister, Mr G. Sudhakaran, at a function in Alappuzha on Sunday. The floating superstore is claimed to be the first-of-its-kind in the world. It was conceived and created by Consumerfed, the apex institution under the State Cooperation Department. There will be a 2 per cent discount on all commodities and people belonging to SC/ST will be given 3 per cent discount on producing their ration cards during purchase. The boat will cover 17 panchayats in the Kuttanad area and around 50 locations have been identified for anchoring it, to facilitate purchasing. The boat can accommodate 15 shoppers and the shop’s working hours will be between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. More Stories on : Retailing | Shipping/Ports | New Products & Services | Kerala
