Aegis BPO gets into infrastructure management

Our Bureau

Mumbai, June 8 Aegis BPO, the back-office outfit of the Essar Group, has ventured into the IT infrastructure management space by forming a new subsidiary company. The new entity will focus on verticals such as telecom, government, power and power utilities.

The Mumbai-headquartered Aegis plans to invest $100 million over the next 12 months into Aegis Tech, its technology subsidiary that would provide IT solutions in areas such as voice and data, networking, unified communications, managed services, information security, and remote infrastructure management.

As a result of the recession, corporates are looking at pruning their IT budgets by outsourcing their IT infrastructure requirements to specialist vendors, said Mr Aparup Sengupta, CEO and Managing Director, said in a conference call.

Mr S.K. Jha, who was earlier with Wipro Infotech, has been appointed as President of Aegis Tech.

Going forward, Aegis Tech expects to set up operations in America, Philippines, Australia, Costa Rica etc.

To begin with, more than 500 techies from the Essar group would come into the Aegis Tech fold. The employee base is expected to reach over 1,000 in the next 12-18 months through new hires and acquisitions.
