AP cement consumption defies slowdown

G. Naga Sridhar

Hyderabad, June 1

Despite economic slowdown, the cement consumption in Andhra Pradesh is continuing to grow at a steady pace surpassing the national average. In April, the consumption was at 19.25 lakh tonnes compared with 17.75 lakh, marking a growth of 8.45 per cent. “I consider this growth in consumption as a good sign. Remember that April was election month in Andhra Pradesh.

For many days, dispatches were interrupted and workers had not turned up for works as they were engaged in political activities,” Mr S.R.B. Ramesh Chandra, Managing Director, Bheema Cements, told Business Line. In fact, the cement industry in the State has been showing a double-digit growth for the last four years in terms of dispatches.
