Bankers' meet in Mangalore

Banks in Dakshina Kannada reached a business level of Rs 20,120 crore in 2008-09, according to Mr K.U. Shanbhag, General Manager of Syndicate Bank. Speaking at the district consultative committee meeting for banking development here, he said this level of business was achieved by 393 bank branches in the district. The figure includes deposits of Rs 12,756 crore and advances of Rs 7,364 crore. There is increase in deposits by 22 per cent and advances by 10 per cent on year-on-year basis, he said. The credit-deposit ratio of the district was 58 per cent at the end of March, he added. The meeting was organised by Syndicate Bank, the lead bank of Dakshina Kannada. Mr Udayakumar Holla, Lead District Manager, said that the district had achieved all the parameters in lending to priority sector, weaker section of society, minority communities, and women beneficiaries as set by the Government of India and RBI.
