The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has allowed duty free import of one million capsules of Tamiflu 75 mg (Oseltamivir Phosphate).

The imports would be carried out by Roche India Ltd on behalf of the Indian government. This has been allowed to create a buffer stock of the drug, Oseltamivir Phosphate, which is used for the treatment of H1N1 influenza.

An official release said that the buffer stock is to be maintained by Roche India Ltd on behalf of the Indian Government for supply to the Government only.

The customs duty exemption order has been issued on the recommendations of the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the release added.
