Pradhan. The Commission was constituted in August 18, last year, under the former Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court, Mr R.K. Patra, with March 31, 2009 as the deadline. However, the time given to the Commission was short. The Commission had to first hold hearings from various stakeholders, study and then finalise the report. All this could not be completed within the stipulated period. Then there were elections to both State Assembly and Lok Sabha, with the model code of conduct having come into force. On receipt of the final report, the State Government will constitute a high-powered committee to examine the recommendations. The views of the committee will be examined by the State Cabinet. The implementation of the report is unlikely before the second half of this year. There has been demand from various employees’ organisations and pensioners’ association for pay parity with the Central Government employees according to the recommendations of the Six Pay Commission, it is learnt.
