Toshiba files suit against DVD makers, distributors

Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 19 Toshiba Corporation has filed a lawsuit against various DVD manufacturers and distributors, including Moser Baer India, alleging infringement of its patents for recordable DVD media.

When contacted, a Moser Baer spokesperson said that the company was “awaiting details of the lawsuit and will respond at the appropriate time.”

Last week, Toshiba said that it had filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin against Imation Corp and several manufacturers and distributors of recordable DVD media “as a means to prohibit infringement of Toshiba’s DVD patents.”

Apart from seeking “damages for past infringement”, the lawsuit has requested the court to enjoin the sale, manufacture, and importation into the US of recordable DVD media by these companies.
