Shipping/Ports New Mangalore port’s revenue tops Rs 300 cr Our Bureau Mangalore, May 14 The total revenue of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) crossed Rs 300 crore during 2008-09, according to Mr P. Tamilvanan, Chairman of NMPT. Speaking at a press conference to announce the port’s performance here on Thursday, he said the exact figure of the revenue can be known only after the finalisation of the accounts. Mr Tamilvanan said the port earned a net surplus of over Rs 100 crore for the fourth consecutive year. It also achieved the target of spending Rs 30 crore on plan expenditure. INFRASTRUCTUREStating that the NMPT has signed a concession agreement with Udupi Power Corporation Ltd for the development of coal-handling facilities, he said the work is in progress on this project. The Public-Private Partnership Appraisal Committee has approved the project of mechanised iron ore handling facilities. The bidding process will be completed by June. A 32-tonne bollard pull tug, which is being built at Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 22.75 crore, is expected to be delivered at Mangalore soon, he said.
