Moser Baer posts Rs 43-cr net in Q4

Our Bureau

New Delhi, April 30 Moser Baer India on Thursday registered a net profit of Rs 42.9 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2009, against a loss of Rs 71.7 crore in the year-ago period. The company benefited from a recovery in optical media prices as well as a drop in input costs (raw material and fuel). The net sales stood at Rs 509.85 crore, up 6.7 per cent.

The EBITDA margins rose to 32 per cent from 25 per cent in the preceding quarter for the optical media business.

For the full year ended March 2009, losses stood at Rs 128.54 crore against Rs 78.91 crore in the previous year. The FY09 net sales increased Rs 2,288.48 crore, against Rs 1,964.02 crore.

Commenting on the results, Mr Ratul Puri, Executive Director, Moser Baer India, said, “The continued softening of input costs augurs well both for consumers and the business. With customers increasingly migrating to new and value-added formats, the optical media product profile is changing and this factor will impact volumes in the near-term.”

"The impact of leaner working capital resulting in operating cash flow generation is significant. Net repayment of debt and strong cash from operations are clearly beneficial from a balance sheet standpoint. On the photovoltaic side of the business, continued demand for clean and renewable energy will drive solar energy costs towards grid parity in the next couple of years," Mr Yogesh Mathur, Group Chief Financial Officer, said.
