Diversification BEL may diversify into solar power generation Our Bureau Bangalore, April 30 Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) has set its eyes on entering solar power generation business as part of its diversification plans. BEL, which recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) to form a joint venture to set up a polycrystalline silicon manufacturing unit to tap the huge potential in the solar energy sector, is not averse to become a player in the energy production business. However, the plan is at a nascent stage and it is assessing the viability of the proposition. “We are looking at it (the feasibility of entering solar power generation),” was all that Mr V.V.R. Sastry, the outgoing Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, said. Sharing his thoughts on the PSU Navaratna’s plans with mediapersons after the company’s annual press conference here, Mr Sastry, who will be succeeded by Mr Ashwani Kumar Datt, Director (Other Units) from May 1, said discussions were on with BHEL for its core business understanding to manufacture solar photovoltaic units. The two PSUs were scouting for technology partner for the venture, he added. More Stories on : Diversification | Electronics | Non-conventional Energy
