Linguistics Mind your language If only spinner Harbhajan had known the Bahasa Indonesia, he could have simply got away with the incident involving Andrew Symonds during the Indian team’s visit to Australia last year. That controversy nearly derailed the Indian team’s tour, though the controversy still evokes response from all quarters. If you were to say “Terima kasih” (pronounced as teri ma kasi) in Bahasa Indonesia you are only saying “thank you”. If you were to tell someone that you want “susu”, it means you want milk. “Pa” in the language is Mr, while “pa pa” is for addressing a male. Bahasa is written in English and most of the English words have found their way into the language. There are similar words in English and Bahasa such as airport, apple, baby, tennis, ticket, toilet, TV and university. – MRS More Stories on : Linguistics | Sports
