HP India digital library tool for Kerala colleges

Kochi, April 23 Hewlett-Packard India is in the process of installing its new DSpace Solution also known as digital libraries in several educational institutions in Kerala, as part of supporting the recent initiative of the HRD Ministry programme that enables 4,000 hours of videos in different subjects of engineering for college students.

DSpace Solutions or Digital Repositories help to manage and capture intellectual assets as part of information strategy. Catering to the growing requirement, the company plans to collaborate with academic/research institutions to develop the institutional repository/digital library. It also has plans to set up a central repository by connecting all academic institutions and forming a knowledge grid, Mr Faisal M. Paul, Head ESS – Marketing and Sales, Hewlett Packard India Sales Pvt Ltd, said.

HP India has selected Cochin University of Science and Technology to develop DSpace and to meet the growing interest in developing digital libraries. The other engineering colleges with which the company had collaborated in the State included School of Communication and Management Studies, FMG Engineering College and SNGCE, he said.

Jointly developed by MIT Libraries and Hewlett-Packard Labs, the DSpace software platform serves a variety of digital archiving needs for research and educational institutions worldwide.

5-day workshop

HP India has announced the inauguration of a 5-day workshop jointly organised with the Cochin University of Science and Technology and UGC IBLIBNET to provide an overview on DSpace. .

The event will facilitate interaction between national experts. Deliberation of the experts and subsequent discussions will help to develop the capacity for building digital collections.
