Our Bureau Mumbai, April 20 Tata Consultancy Services plans to recruit 250 freshers for its global development centre in Cincinnati in the US over the next three to six months. This centre currently employs under 1,000 associates. Majority of the recruitment in Cincinnati will be freshers, according to Mr N. Chandraskeran, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, TCS. While there is an increased emphasis on offshoring which led to a 237 basis points leverage for the company during the fiscal currently ended, there is no emphasis on lay-offs in any of its global development centres, he said. Employee costs in the fourth quarter of FY09 actually decreased by about Rs 121 crore (to Rs 4080.8 crore versus Rs 4201.6 crore in December 2008), despite the headcount increase of 13,418 during the period. Most of the additions (12,897) in this quarter were made not by TCS but by its subsidiaries such as TCS Eserve. During the last fiscal, 95 per cent of the employees were given 95 per cent of their variable pay (where the company’s quarterly performance is also a determinant). Middle level employees obtained 94 per cent and the senior rung 92 per cent of variable pay. The company made a gross addition of 48,595 professionals, and a net addition of 32,354 in the fiscal ended March 2009. The current employee strength is 1,43,761 while its attrition rate is at 11.4 per cent. The utilisation rate (excluding trainees) has been maintained at 79.7 per cent, while the utilisation rate otherwise is lower at 69.4 per cent, Mr Ajoy Mukherjee, Vice-President and Head, Global Human Resources, TCS, said. The campus offers made for the current fiscal, at 24,885, stand higher than in the previous fiscal when there were 22,000 trainees recruited. It has completed the process of taking on-board all the 22,000 freshers who were given offer letters in their penultimate year of college (in 2007), he added. ‘TCS trims UK headcount by 10%’ More Stories on : Software | Tata Consultancy Services Ltd | Human Resources
