Our Bureau Hyderabad, April 19 The current economic scenario is good for staring entrepreneurial ventures and youngsters should not hesitate to float start-ups, according to Mr Rajagopal Yadavalli, Chief Executive Officer, Winnou Systems and Services Pvt Ltd. Delivering a lecture on ‘How to build a career in this economic slowdown’ organised by the Business Line Club at TKR Institute of Management & Sciences here recently, he said job-aspirants should look for opportunities at the bottom of the pyramid. “Start-up firms from MBA school grads are not a novelty in the US. It can also happen here. Find a problem for whose solution that people will pay. It could be as simple or as difficult as finding a better mosquito repellent than what the market has today,” Mr Yadavalli said. He also advised the students to not to be enamoured with large MNCs. “They can offer you high-flying jobs, but you may be better off many a time starting your career in a smaller firm.” A smaller firm could offer higher responsibilities, visibility and could equip a person in a much better way than a large MNC, he added. Driving forceMaking a comparison between academic performance and a career, Mr Yadavalli said one should be prepared to give 110 per cent performance in job. “In the academics, 70 per cent is average, 80 per cent performance is good and, if you reach 90 per cent, you are excellent. But in the industry, your customers and managers expect nothing less than 100 per cent performance from you,” he explained. Stating that there were many opportunities in the country unlike 15 years ago, he said students/job-seekers could to make a choice. “Figure out what drives you. Find industry sectors that you would like to work with. It could be horizontals or specific verticals, but find out what excites you.
