Natco Pharma, Dr Reddy’s in pact for oncology drugs

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, April 16 Natco Pharma Ltd has entered into an agreement with Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd for development, manufacture and supply of value-added generic oncology drugs for global markets.

A basket of currently selling oral and injectable innovator products, which have multi-million dollar sales across the world including Pacitaxel, a generic version of Abraxane, would be selected for generic development.

Dr Reddy’s and Natco would develop these products jointly for registration and global commercialisation including the regulated markets of the US and EU. Natco would exclusively manufacture these products to be supplied to Dr Reddy’s for commercialisation.

Dr Reddy’s would pay an undisclosed amount as upfront payment for Natco for securing rights to the product portfolio and capacity required to manufacture these products. In return, it would get exclusive territory specific and global commercialisation rights depending on the nature of the product. The profit would be shared by the two companies.

For Natco, which already has over 12 oncology products in the market, the agreement would help recover the development costs and manufacturing expenses besides a share in the profit.

For the long term

The long-term agreement (for over a period of 10 years) can be supplemented with future products to expand the strategic collaboration, Natco said in a release.

Commenting on the deal, Mr Rajeev Nannapaneni, Chief Operating Officer, Natco Pharma, said: “We are impressed with Dr Reddy’s commercial infrastructure and commitment to oncology and are happy to come together to deliver value in the oncology space.”
