Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu Corporate heads sign CII’s code for ecologically sustainable growth Our Correspondent Madurai, April 16 Corporate heads signed the code for ecologically sustainable business growth evolved by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in confirmation of their voluntary commitment to work towards conserving natural resources without compromising on high and accelerated growth, in a CEOs meet organised by CII, Madurai Zone, here. Called the ‘Mission on Sustainable Growth’, the code focuses on 10 commandments to realise the objectives by involving the top management of the companies in setting targets for the use of the resources. The signature campaign to promote the code, already held in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kochi, Pune and Ahmedabad, has secured commitment from 220 CEOs across the country. “The target is to obtain 1,000 signatories by the end of the year,” said Mr S. Raghupathy, Head, CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad, at the meet. He explained the present scenario in the use of the resources and the need to conserve energy to secure growth on a sustainable basis. The high impact sectors in the consumption of coal, electricity, water, as well as emissions and waste water discharge have been identified and an ecological footprint has been developed for the country and for key sectors in the economy, he said. The individual companies are free to choose their targets, based on their operational efficiency, technology adoption and management priorities. CII would handhold them in developing the baseline and setting the targets, evolve a system for continuous monitoring, assist in the development of green purchase, collate and disseminate international best practices. Mr T. Kannan, Past Chairman, CII, Southern Region, who presided, said global warming has risen to alarming proportions. Time has come for every corporate entity to face the challenge in an ethical manner while using the resources, he said. More Stories on : Industry Associations | Environment | Tamil Nadu
