Our Bureau Mumbai, April 13 Satyam Computer Services currently employs 48,000 people on its rolls. It had lost around 5,000 employees during the September-March period of the past fiscal. “Of the 48,000, 43,500 were employees of Satyam Computer stand-alone, and the rest is subsidiaries, contractors and sub-contractors,” said Mr T.N. Manoharan, one of the directors of the Government-appointed board. Dispelling speculation about Satyam’s employee count being inflated, Mr Manoharan said that the company had 53,000 employees as on the end of the second quarter of the previous fiscal. (This was around the same time Mr B. Ramalinga Raju disclosed the over Rs 7,000-crore fraud.) “In the second quarter, around 2,000 associates left Satyam making it 51,000. When the Government-nominated board took stock of things, it was 51,000 comprising 45,000 Satyam’s stand-alone employees and the remaining from subsidiaries, contractors and sub-contractors,” he added. Key employeesThe top management at Satyam has identified around 100 key employees who will be retained in the company even after the investor comes on board Satyam. Even post-acquisition, the company would need to have leaders in the organisation to continue customer relationships and to maintain the workforce, said Mr Shardul Shroff, Managing Partner, AmarchandMangaldas, which was the legal advisor to the Satyam board. However, he added that there is no legal binding on Tech Mahindra to take every employee of Satyam on board.
