Airlines Travel agents stop booking Singapore Airlines tickets Our Bureau Mumbai, April 8 Of the 1,350 authorised travel agents selling Singapore Airlines tickets across the country, 1,000 agents have stopped selling the carrier’s tickets. In a fresh development, these agents on Wednesday also surrendered their capping letters to the airline. Capping letter is a document given by the airlines authorising the agent to book the respective airline’s ticket. In a letter to Mr Foo Chai Woo, General Manager-India, Singapore Airlines, the agents said, “Until you choose to recognise the value that travel agents bring to you and your airline and compensate us fairly we are left with no option but to surrender our capping on Singapore Airlines.” Calling this step as an “unprecedented move in the history of travel agents fraternity,” Mr Ajay Prakash, General Secretary, TAFI, further said that agents seek authority from airlines to sell tickets, to give it back is a clear indication that agents have been pushed to the edge and it is for Singapore Airlines to decide which way they choose to go. However, the agents are willing to resume ticket sales of the carrier if their demand for reinstating commission is acceded to. Singapore Airlines did not respond on the issue.
