ICAI President to quiz Satyam auditors

Our Bureau

New Delhi, April 3 The two tainted partners of audit firm Price Waterhouse, who are in judicial custody at Hyderabad, will be quizzed on April 5 by the CA institute’s President, Mr Uttam Prakash Agarwal.

Price Waterhouse was the statutory auditor of scam-hit Satyam Computer Services. The audit firm had resigned as statutory auditor in the wake of the Satyam scam coming to light and the Government-appointed Board taking control of the company.

“We have now been allowed by the Court at Hyderabad to interrogate the two Price Waterhouse partners in the Satyam Computer Services matter. I will visit Hyderabad for this and do the interrogation on April 5,” Mr Agarwal said here on Friday.

In the Satyam Computer Services case, the role of statutory auditors Price Waterhouse is under the scanner. Both Mr S. Gopalakrishnan and Mr Srinivas Tulluri as partners of the audit firm had separately attested the financial statements of the fraud-hit company for different years.

Meanwhile, Mr Agarwal clarified that he would be undertaking this exercise as head of the high-power committee that was set up by the institute to look into the entire gamut of Satyam affair. “The disciplinary matter is a separate thing and it will go on independently,” he told Business Line, when asked whether he intends to quiz the tainted partners as part of the disciplinary proceedings of the institute.
