Weikfield’s tea unit gets IFS cert

Pune, March 31

DNV (Det Norske Veritas) has issued the first SINCERT accredited IFS certificate in India to the tea division of Pune-based Weikfield Foods Pvt Ltd. The International Food Standard (IFS) is a common food safety standard with a uniform evaluation system used to qualify and select suppliers to help retailers ensure the food safety of their products and monitors the quality level of producers of retailer branded food products. Weikfield Foods is a leading food companies in In dia and entered the organic tea sector in 1999. India is the second largest tea producer accounting for 31 per cent of global production with export earnings of Rs 1,315 crore during the first 11 months of 2008. —
