RINL strike called off

Our Bureau

Visakhapatnam, March 29 The contract workers in the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant) called off a strike on Sunday, as the management conceded their demand for a wage hike of Rs 1,000 a month.

According to a press release issued by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the Union Steel Minister, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan, had given the promise on the wage hike last year, but the management was postponing implementation on one pretext or the other. At last, the contract workers had served a strike notice in the first week of this month and they went on strike from March 24.

CITU congratulated the contract workers for their united fight to achieve their demand and urged the management to implement the wage hike immediately.
