Chennai, March 25 Germany-based Freudenberg & Co, which supplies products such as seals, vibration controls and ‘non wovens’, is planning to set up joint ventures in India.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, the Regional Representative for India, Mr Joerg Matthias Grossman, said that to start with, Freudenberg will set up joint ventures for a few divisions of its non woven business — which are fabric for special applications.

These products go into the manufacture of automobiles (to reduce vibration and harshness), electrical motors, generators and footwear. Freudenberg, through its 14 business groups, serves a range of industries such as automotive and process industries such as chemicals and fertilisers. In 2008, the Freudenberg companies in India cumulatively achieved a turnover of Rs 547 crore.

Freudenberg group companies will supply components to Nano worth €50 a car through Tier-1 suppliers, he said.

Freudenberg has invested Rs 6.5 crore to set up a training centre at Nagapattinam, to educate people in a range of vocations such as welding, fitting, motor mechanics and machining.

The project, initiated in April 2006 by Freudenberg Tsuami Victims Rehabilitation e.V, got delayed due non-availability of suitable land and approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. The Act regulates inflow of foreign funds to NGOs.

The training centre will be officially inaugurated on Thursday.
