Safeguard duty sought on alum product imports from China

Our Bureau

New Delhi, March 13 The country’s safeguards office has recommended imposition of provisional safeguards duty on imports of aluminium flat-rolled products and aluminium foils from China.

While a safeguards duty of 21 per cent has been recommended on imports of aluminium flat-rolled products, the duty recommended for aluminium foils was 35 per cent, an official from the Directorate of Safeguards said.

However, the Government is yet to take a call on the recommendation and as such not notified any safeguards duty on these aluminium product imports from China.

“No notification has been issued,” a Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) spokesperson said, when asked if the Government had imposed any safeguards duty on aluminium flat rolled products or aluminium foil imports from China.

The Aluminium Association of India had filed the petition before the Director-General (Safeguards) seeking safeguards duty on aluminium foils and aluminium flat rolled products.
