Dr Reddy’s wins drug patent case in US

Hyderabad, March 13 A US District Court has granted a summary judgment that pharma major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd does not infringe the patents in its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for Omeprazole.
The Hyderabad-based company got this favourable ruling in a litigation suit related to Astra Zeneca’s Prilosec.
Commenting on the judgment, Mr Amit Patel, Head, North America Generics, Dr Reddy’s, said: “We are very pleased with the favourable summary judgment ruling in the Omeprazole litigation. This is a key event supporting our strategy to deliver one upside opportunity every year.”
The company had submitted its ANDA filing and is awaiting response from the US Food and Drug Administration.
“We will continue to work through the regulatory approval process while simultaneously progressing manufacturing and commercialisation preparation (of the drug),” he added.
Omeprazole Mg is indicated for the treatment of heartburn.
