Airlines Industry & Economy - Regulatory Bodies & Rulings 29 in race for airport regulatory body top post Our Bureau New Delhi, March 9 The Secretary, Consumer Affairs, Mr Yashwant Bhave; the former Secretary Textiles, Mr A.K. Singh; the former Secretary, Non-Conventional Resources, Mr V. Subramanian; and the former Chairman, Airports Authority of India, Mr K. Ramalingam, are among those in the race for being picked as Chairman, Airports Economic Regulatory Authority. Sources told Business Line that these were among the 29 proposals received by the Government till last Friday (March 6), which was the last date for submission of applications. All the applications will now be closely scrutinised and a list of people found suitable will be sent to the Cabinet Secretariat for taking a final view. Apart from a Chairperson, AERA is to have two other members. The prime objective of AERA will be to create a level playing field and foster healthy competition among all major airports (Government owned, public private partnership based, private), encourage investment in airport facilities regulate tariffs of aeronautical services, protection of reasonable interest of users, and operate efficient, economic and viable airports.
