Himalaya has 200 new products in pipeline

“Himalaya will launch in India only those products which it believes have a market and demand here.”

Bangalore, March 9 Himalaya Drug Company has around 200 products in the pipeline in the personal care segment. While all of it may not be for the Indian market, the company is evaluating the possibility of a herbal hair colourant in the country.

Mr Saket Gore, Business Head – Consumer Products Division, Himalaya, says that not all personal care products are suited to India. “For instance, while we sell mouthwash outside India, it is not sold here in India due to lack of awareness and acceptance for such a product in the country,” says Mr Gore.

Although there are 200 new products in the pipeline, Mr Gore says Himalaya will launch in India only those products which it believes have a market and demand here.

Apart from a skincare range for men, the company is also looking at hair colourants. “Because people always ask us if there could be a herbal alternative to the chemical-based ones in the market currently,” explains Mr Gore.

The fashion hair colour market in the country – excluding dyes – is around Rs 550 crore. Himalaya has three divisions – personal care, healthcare and animal health. Personal care, which consists of skincare, hair care, oral care and healthcare, contributes 30 per cent of the company’s total revenues.

It is present in 67 countries, including West Asia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa and the CIS countries of Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. This year, Himalaya hopes to take its personal care products to the rest of the CIS region.
