Bearys Group plans green building in Mangalore

Our Bureau

Mangalore, March 9 The Bangalore-based Bearys Group is setting up a green building project – Bearys Valencia – in Mangalore.

Mr Syed Mohamed Beary, Managing Director of Bearys Group, told Business Line that Bearys Valencia is the first green building project in Mangalore.

The project, which will have 36 residential units, has been slated for completion in December 2010. It will be ready for possession then, he said.

Mr Beary said his company, consciously, never cuts trees nor changes the contour of the land. “In fact, ruthless cutting of trees and flattening of land gives me a lot of heartburn. For quite some time now we have been looking for the right opportunity to showcase green building initiative in Mangalore and ‘Bearys Valencia’ is a maiden project on these lines,” he said.

More in store

Mr Beary said it disturbed him that the green landscape of Mangalore is slowly waning.

“We have in store a number of projects, including residential, commercial, retail and gated estate – all on the theme of green building – which we plan to launch in due course,” he said.

On the ‘Bearys Valencia’ project, he said its design is sensitive to the hot and humid climate of Mangalore. Large decks with terrace gardens and screen walls in strategic surfaces break the harsh sun and cut down the incident of radiation.

Local bio-gradable materials have been creatively used with eco-friendly fixtures and fittings to reduce wastage and optimise the use of natural resources, he added.
