Our Bureau New Delhi, March 6 Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd said on Friday it has received approval from Australia’s drug regulator to sell generic terbinafine tablets. Terbinafine is an anti-fungal drug used to treat skin infections. Ranbaxy Australia, the wholly owned subsidiary of the company, has received an approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for the registration of Sebifin Terbinafine tablets in Australia, a statement from the country’s largest drug-maker said. The approval was based on the assessment by the TGA that the Ranbaxy formulation of terbinafine is bioequivalent to Lamisil tablets of Novartis Pharmaceuticals Australia, it added. With the approval of this tablet, Ranbaxy now has a total number of 26 molecules approved for marketing in Australia, the statement said. The approved molecules cover a wide range of therapeutic areas including anti-hypertensive, anti-infective, anti-convulsants and anti-depressants, it added. Shares of Ranbaxy Laboratories closed the day at Rs 141.30, down 2.15 per cent on the BSE.
