Calcutta HC ruling on defective auto conversion applications
Our Legal Correspondent
Kolkata, March 5 A Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court, comprising the Chief Justice, Mr S.S. Nijjar, and Mr Justice P.C. Ghose, on Thursday directed over 17,000 auto owners, whose applications for converting their autos from two stroke to four-stroke have been found to be defective, to rectify the defects of their applications within seven days.
The court also directed United Bank and Allahabad Bank and also representatives of the oil companies to remain present in the court on March 17, the next date of hearing, to suggest how the loan-granting process can be expedited and how the LPG outlets can be increased.
Presenting the compliance report of the order dated January 9, passed by the court, the Advocate-General said that of the 19,548 applications received for conversion, only 2,229 had been forwarded to banks for loans, the rest being defective.
As a result, only 982 LPG autos were now plying on the road and 12 outlets for LPG refilling had been commissioned. The court indicated that outlets should be 40.
