Aquaculture States - Andhra Pradesh CMFRI cage culture in Vizag again Our Bureau Visakhapatnam, March 4 The local branch of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) has taken up open sea cage culture again this year, encouraged by the results last year. In fact, the CMFRI is taking up cage culture at several places on the east and west coasts to establish techno-economic feasibility and popularise it in order to boost fish production. Marine fish production is stagnating and the demand is ever increasing and, therefore, the need is felt for cage culture, which is popular in China, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. Sources in the CMFRI said the attempts, made last year here to take up cage culture, had met with considerable success, in spite of some initial hiccups. The institute is culturing Asina Sea Bass (locally known as Pandugappalu) again this year. More Stories on : Aquaculture | Agricultural Institutions | Andhra Pradesh
