Outlook Industry & Economy - Cinema Big Entertainment’s investment plans Chennai, Feb. 23 Big Entertainment, part of ADAG, is planning to produce close to 20 films in 2009-10 at an investment of Rs 350 crore. “Of them, at least eight films will be in Hindi, and the rest will be in other regional languages including Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil and Malayalam,” said Mr Sunir Kheterpal, Chief Operating Officer, Big Pictures – a film production and distribution division of Big Entertainment. According to Mr Kheterpal, the company produced 15 films, ent ailing an investment of Rs 250 crore, and distributed 19 films, including the 15 (11 in Hindi and 4 in regional languages) films it produced. Of the 15 films, “seven films did well at the box office”. It also procured international rights of Ghajini for Rs 10 crore and the film grossed Rs 35 crore in the overseas market, he said. The company’s Tamil film Yaavarum Nalam, featuring Madhvan, is due for release in March. Besides, two films in Kannada and Telugu are under production and will be released soon. “We want to be a serious player in Tamil and Telugu film industries as they account for a chunk of the country’s overall movie market,” said Mr Kheterpal. — R.
