Emami Biotech, Calcutta Tramways pact for selling bio diesel

Our Bureau

Kolkata, Feb. 19 Emami Biotech Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC) for the supply of 250 kilo litre of bio diesel a month, according to a press statement issued by the company.

The company has a capacity to produce 300 tonnes of bio diesel a day at the Haldia plant. Bio diesel is a diesel-equivalent, processed fuel derived from biological sources (such as vegetable oils), which can be used in unmodified diesel-engined vehicles.

The MoU with CTC would instil confidence among other government organisations to use the product and play a pro-active role to ensure a pollution-free environment, said Mr Manish Goenka, Director, Emami Group of Companies. “We also urge the bus and taxi associations to take similar initiative,” said Mr Goenka.
