Kerala to amend Ecologically Fragile Land Act

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb. 17

The Kerala Government will amend the Ecologically Fragile Land Act to solve the problems faced by small and marginal farmers.

Replying to questions in the State Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister for Forests, Mr Binoy Viswam, said that the Government would fix a limit for the extent of land holdings of small and marginal farmers and exempt it from the Act. A committee would be constituted to look into the complaints arising out of the amendments. The Minister informed the House that the Government had taken over 32,614.24 acres of land so far under the provisions of the Act.

Infopark expansion

The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, said that the second phase expansion of the Infopark in Kochi would be completed by 2013.

The proposed IT parks at Cherthala, Ambalappuzha and Koratty were expected to create 32,000 job opportunities.
