Performance Coca-Cola posts 28% rise in unit case volumes in India Our Bureau New Delhi, Feb. 12 India recorded a 28 per cent increase in unit case volumes during the fourth quarter ending December 31, in the global results of Coca-Cola announced in Atlanta today. Key emerging markets such as South Africa and Nigeria grew 11 per cent and 12 per cent in the quarter respectively. Unit case volume increased 29 per cent in China. Eurasia and Africa markets saw an increase in net revenues of 12 per cent during the quarter. For the year, net revenues grew 10 per cent, reflecting a 7 per cent increase in concentrate sales, with positive pricing and mix partially offset by a 4 per cent negative impact from currency. Sparkling beverages increased 4 percent and still beverages increased 21 percent for the year for these markets together. The Coca-Cola Company reported unit case volume growth of 4 percent in the fourth quarter and 5 per cent for the full year. Acquisitions contributed 1 point of unit case volume growth for the quarter and 2 points of growth for the full year. “Our performance in the fourth quarter was very solid,” said Mr Muhtar Kent, President and CEO, Coca-Cola. “For the year, we again exceeded our long-term growth targets despite a very challenging economic environment. And importantly, we gained volume and value share in most of our leading markets through solid execution of our strategies,” he in a press release. Net operating revenues for the year were down three per cent to $7,126 million compared to $7,331 million last year. Net income was down 18 per cent to $995 million compared to $1,214 million last year. The North America group’s unit case volumes declined 3 per cent in the quarter, from significant bottler price increases and poor macroeconomic conditions, partially offset by strong consumer marketing, value creating customer programmes and good bottler execution, said the company.
