Boeing’s IDC products for armed forces

Our Bureau

Bangalore, Feb. 10 Boeing said on Tuesday that its integrated defence systems (IDS) arm can offer products like the F/A – 18 N Super Hornet multi-role strike fighter, the Harpoon missile and the CH-47F and MH-47 G heavy–lift Chinook helicopters for the Indian forces.

IDS portfolio extends to the C-17 Globemaster III strategic – lift cargo plane, C4ISR platforms and the Airborne Early Warning and Control systems.

The Union Government early this year signed an agreement with Boeing’s IDS to purchase eight P-81 long range maritime reconnaissance and anti-submarine aircraft. The P-81 is an Indian-unique variant of the US Navy P – 8A Poseidon. The deal is the largest defence contract to have been signed by the Indian Government with a US company.

Boeing’s spokesperson during a press conference here also announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop an analysis and experimentation centre in India to offer customers the ability to make better informed decisions in modernising India’s defence forces.

“Establishing a decision support capability in India is another step for Boeing as our company successfully expands internationally,” said Boeing Integrated Defence Systems’s India country head, Mr Vivek Lall.

He said with the latest modelling, simulation and analysis tools, customers will have the ability to conduct experiments in a collaborative, immersive environment to analyse the utility of new technologies or tactics on military operations.
