‘Cut freight rates for grains, pulses’

Madurai, Feb. 4

The Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants Association has sought a revision in the freight rates on grains and pulses. In a memorandum submitted to the Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, the association secretary, Mr P. Subashchandra Bose, while acknowledging the development taking place in Tamil Nadu in the sector, has drawn his attention to the transfer of grains and pulses to Schedule 130 from 110 and 120 respectively, resulting in an increase in the freight ra tes from February. Earlier, they were under Schedule 90, treated as belonging to one category, he said. He appealed for retaining the items under Schedule 90 as before.
