Supply Chain Management Govt to review proposed postal Bill Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 30 The Government has decided to review the Postal Amendment Bill 2007, which would have brought private courier firms under a regulator. “We felt the amendments were not all encompassing,” the Minister of State for IT and Communications, Mr Jyotiradiya Scindia, told reporters here. Ms Radhika Doraiswamy, Secretary, Post, said, “We have withdrawn the Cabinet note for Bill. We feel it need to be reconsidered.” Breather for courier cosThe decision to temporally withdraw the Bill will provide relief to private courier companies which have been vehemently opposing the policy on grounds that it would restrict competition and choice to consumers. The proposed law would have disallowed private courier firms from handling of documents weighing less than 300 grams. This category in parcel fetches the maximum revenue. The Bill had proposed to allow only the Department of Post to collect and deliver documents under 300 gm. More Stories on : Supply Chain Management | Policy
