Bay-Forge to be global hub of open die-cast products

Our Bureau

Chennai, Jan. 23 The Chennai-based Bay-Forge Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fomas Group of Italy, will soon become the sole manufacturing hub for open die-cast products weighing up to 20 tonnes. The company makes rings and shafts that are used in several critical applications including aerospace, thermal and nuclear power generation.

The CEO of Fomas Group, Mr Jacopo Guzzoni, told Busniess Line that the group has decided to source open die-cast products up to 20 tonnes from Bay-Forge for its global customers. The range will be increased to 50 tonnes in five years.

He inaugurated a 2,000-tonne hydraulic press at Bay-Forge plant, near Chennai, on Friday.

Of the €250 million set aside by the group for expansion programmes in different locations across globe, Bay-Forge received €20 million and the press was part of the project, he said.

Bay-Forge’s Managing Director, Mr Nicola Boletta, said last year the company produced about 8,000 tonnes of finished products. This year it would grow to 12,000 tonnes.

The key driver for the demand is growth in the power and aerospace sectors in India. Besides, there is significant potential in the overseas markets. “We see a demand for more than 45,000 tonnes in four years,” he said.
