Security Corporates to get CISF cover for a price
Our Bureau New Delhi, Jan. 2 Private sector and joint venture industrial undertakings would now be entitled for Central Industrial Security Force cover. The Union Cabinet on Friday decided to promulgate an ordinance for this purpose. “We had introduced a CISF amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Since we could not pass it in Parliament though we had introduced the Bill and requested not to send it to the standing committee, we have decided to promulgate an ordinance forthwith,” Mr Kapil Sibal, Union Science and Technology Minister, told reporters after a Cabinet meeting. He said that the Government would soon frame the rules, including eligibility criteria and compensation issues, for the security cover. Mr Sibal, however, made it clear that private sector organisations would have to compensate the Government for CISF services. The Union Home Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, had recently told a press conference that industry captains and leading corporate houses like Tata, Oberoi, Infosys and Reliance Industries (Jamnagar refinery) had approached him for CISF protection. Judges’ SalariesMeanwhile, the Union Cabinet also cleared the promulgation of an Ordinance for revising the salaries of Chief Justices and Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts. “Even in this case, there was a Bill that could not be passed in Parliament. So we have decided to promulgate an Ordinance. The Union Cabinet had already approved that the salaries of Chief justice of India, Judges of Supreme Court, Chief Justice of High Courts and Judges of High Court would be revised and so will their pensions,” Mr Sibal said. While the salary of Chief Justice of India would be Rs 1,00,000 a month, the salary for Supreme Court judge would be Rs 90,000 a month. For the High Court Chief Justice, salary has been pegged at Rs 90,000 a month and for judges it would be Rs 80,000 a month. More Stories on : Security | Policy
