Siruthuli helps build check dam

Coimbatore, Dec. 23

In an example of what a voluntary organisation could achieve when it works with Government agencies, Siruthuli has helped to build a check dam across Nandangarai stream at a total cost of about Rs 1.28 crore. While Siruthuli has provided Rs 65.38 lakh (51 per cent of the cost) as public participation, the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) has met the balance cost of Rs 62.62 lakh under Namakku Naame Thittam. The Nandangarai stream originates from a height of 1,687 metres above MSL and flows down to 490 metres onto the check dam area. The stream is part of the River Noyyal system and the length of the stream is 3.5 km. The scheme is estimated to benefit 500 families of agriculturists and would enrich 1,600 ha of farm land and would recharge 600 wells and bore wells. – Our Bureau
