The Hindu Business Line : Taj, Oberoi to redeploy employees in group hotels

Mumbai, Nov. 30 The employees of the terror-hit Taj and Trident-Oberoi hotels in Mumbai will be redeployed in other group hotels. These five-star hotels may take at least a year to resume normal business.

Indian Hotel Company Ltd, which owns the Taj group of hotels, said on Sunday that the employees of the Taj Mumbai, which was attacked by terrorists, will be redeployed to other group hotels.

The Taj Mahal Mumbai has around 1,600 employees.

Mr Raymond Bickson, Managing Director, Indian Hotels Company said in a statement on Sunday, some its employees will be redeployed to other hotels until the hotel resumes normal operations. He said all employees were being taken care of in every possible manner.

The company said 10 employees of Taj Mumbai lost their lives and 11 were injured in the terrorist attack. Those killed are Vijay Banja (48), Gautam Gosain (22), Kaizad Kamdin (28), Zaheen Mateen (25), Faustine Martis (25), Sadanand Patil (25), Rahamathulla (54), Boris Rego (23), Thomas Varghese (53) and Rabindra Kanmar (32).

Mr Bickson said the General Manager Mr Karimbir Kang’s wife and two children were also killed during the first night of the terrorist attack.

The Taj group has also made arrangements to support the 11 employees who were injured during the attacks.

Mr Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata group, visited the hotel on Saturday morning.

The attack that began on Wednesday night finally ended after nearly 60 hours on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for Trident Oberoi, said 10 employees of Trident-Oberoi lost their lives in the terror attack.

The hotel has more than 3,500 employees including contract workers and these employees will be reployed to other group hotels, the spokesperson said. Mr P.R.S. Oberoi, Chairman of the Oberoi group, will address employees on Monday.
