NTPC Q2 net up 10%

New Delhi, Oct 24

Despite a steep rise in fuel and employee costs, power major NTPC Ltd posted an increase of nearly 10 per cent in second quarter net profits at Rs 2,110.51crore (Rs 1,925.49 crore), mainly on the back of a lower tax expense . Total income was up 19 per cent at Rs 10,406.21crore (Rs 8,749.13 crore). The company — the country’s largest power generator — recorded highest ever generation in the first half year of 97.535 billion units, achieved PLF of 87.54 per cent for the coal-based stations. Interest cost increased 6.03 per cent to Rs 526.35 crore while depreciation rose 2.58 per cent to Rs 526.65 crore over previous year period. NTPC’s share was down over 8 per cent on Friday to close at Rs 130.85 per share.
