Anand (Gujarat), Sept. 16 Dr Varghese Kurien, father of the White Revolution in India and the architect of Operation Flood, has been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Awards Committee of Agricultural Leadership Awards 2008.

The award goes to outstanding personalities for having served the Indian agriculture system which has positively impacted the growth of India’s farm sector, created newer opportunities, and contributed to overall rural prosperity, according to a release by Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd here on Tuesday.

Impacting lives

Dr Kurien receives the award for transforming and impacting the lives of millions of rural milk producers and helping India emerge as the largest milk producer in the world. The National Awards Committee is headed by Dr A.R. Kidwai, Governor of Haryana, and has 12 persons of national eminence as its members.

The award has been instituted by Agriculture Today, the national agriculture magazine published by the Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development, New Delhi.

The award ceremony would be held shortly in New Delhi as part of the Agriculture Leadership Summit under the Chairmanship of Prof M.S. Swaminathan, the release added.
