Cars Corporate - New Projects Government - Politics
Our Bureau Kolkata, Sept. 11 The West Bengal Government has reportedly not accepted the Trinamool Congress’ demand for return of 300 acres located within the Tata Motors small car plant site in Singur to “unwilling farmers”. Speaking to newspersons after the second round of talks with State Government representatives on the issue, Mr Rabindranath Bhattacharjee, Chairman of the Committee that has been formed by the State Government to resolve the issue and local MLA of Singur belonging to the Trinamool Congress, said the State Government representatives had not accepted the demand for return of 300 acres from within the project area. Meeting again today“The administration did not provide us with any assurance on this score. “They will discuss among themselves before responding to us,” he said, and added that the committee would meet again on Friday to take the process forward. The committee, which was formed on Monday after the Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, met Trinamool Congress leader Ms Mamata Banerjee on Sunday to resolve the issue, was expected to conclude its deliberations and submit its report by September 15. On Thursday, Mr Rabindranath Bhattacharjee said that if the issue were not resolved by Monday next, the Committee would submit a preliminary report and ask for more time to continue with the deliberations. Tata Motors suspended work on the plant on September 2 citing hostile environment at the plant site and said it was looking at other locations to move the plant and machinery. Yechury hopeful of solutionThe CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Mr Sitaram Yechury told newspersons here that he was hopeful that the Singur issue would be resolved. “It is very important for Bengal’s future and for the prosperity of its people,” he said.
