New Delhi, July 11 The joint venture company formed by state-owned equipment firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and power major NTPC Ltd is expected to firm up its business plan shortly.

“The business plan of NTPC-BHEL Power Projects will be finalised by July 22,” the Minister of State for Power, Mr Jairam Ramesh, said here on Friday.

Board composition

A six-member search committee, headed by the Ministry of Heavy Industries Secretary, Mr S.N. Dash, has been formed to appoint a CMD and two full-time directors. Their names are expected to be announced by July 31.

Two part-time directors are already in place. The joint venture firm plans to invest around Rs 5,630 crore over the next five years.

FOR EPC CONTRACTS

NTPC and BHEL formed the venture to carry out engineering procurement construction contracts for power plants and other infrastructure projects.

The two companies had entered into the joint venture agreement in December last and a supplementary agreement was signed in January.

BHEL bags TNEB ORDER

Our Chennai Bureau reports:

BHEL today said that it has bagged a Rs 2,175 crore engineering, procurement, construction contract for a 600 MW thermal power plant from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board.

The plant will come up at the North Chennai Thermal Power Station and this is a repeat contract, according to a BHEL press release.

The release said that this was the second order BHEL had secured for the new rating unit of 600 MW designed to sub-critical parameters. TNEB had earlier awarded BHEL a similar EPC contract for a 600 MW thermal power generating unit at the same power station.

For the contract, BHEL will manufacture the boiler and its auxiliaries at its Tiruchi and Ranipet works in Tamil Nadu, while the steam turbine and generator will be made at the company’s Haridwar plant.

The pumps and heat exchangers will be produced at the Hyderabad plant, electricals at Bhopal, and the controls and instrumentation system will be supplied by BHEL’s electronics division, Bangalore, the release said.
