SWAN scheme to connect govt offices

New Delhi, June 27

The Centre has said it will implement State Wide Area Network (SWAN) scheme to provide connectivity to over one lakh government offices across the country, at a cost of Rs 3,334 crore. This was stated by IT and Communications Minister, Mr A. Raja at the meeting of the Consultative Committee on ‘National e-Governance Plan’ (NeGP) here. The Department of Information Technology (DIT) is currently overseeing the establishment of a State Wide Area Network with 2 Mb ps connectivity, connecting the State headquarters, district headquarters and over 6,000 blocks, across the country. DIT is also implementing the common service centre scheme through which one lakh broadband Internet enabled kiosks are being established in rural areas of the country, an official release said here. —
